February and we are farming again!

2026-02-12T10:25:00+00:00February 19, 2026|

Or more specifically fertilizing! Tom and Peter have been busy over the last week getting the first application of fertilizer over the crops to kick start them into growing this spring. Mostly this has been artificial nitrogen in the form of little white pellets that go across the field and then get taken up by the crops. As it [...]

January…..

2026-02-05T15:32:16+00:00January 5, 2026|

the sheep are munchin’,  the grain sheds are emptyin’, birds are being fed and farmers are catching up on office work. The sheep are doing a great job of eating their way through the massive field of cover crops between foxton and Fowlmere. They’re all in lamb, due to in March so watch this space for exciting updates on [...]

Bit o this and a bit o that on the farm over the last month….

2026-02-05T15:30:42+00:00December 5, 2025|

Crops are looking good, there’s even been some audacious comments about how good the wheat looks compared to this time in other years (all the more room for future disappointment!). But after a relatively kind autumn and a bit of rain and sun, its nice to see the majority of farms looking much better than they have at this [...]

November….and all is calm on an arable farm

2026-02-05T15:29:07+00:00November 5, 2025|

…..if you’re doing it right…..sort of. The crops are all in and have had a bit of nice rain and all is looking well! Better enjoy it. There is a lot of going to look at crops at the moment as they change quite a bit this time of year as they get up and get going before looking [...]

October is all about “drilling”

2026-02-05T15:27:53+00:00October 5, 2025|

.....(or planting if you’re a normal person) crops. The big question to answer is when. Drilling later in October is better for weed control (because you can let the weeds grow and then kill them before planting your own crop), drilling earlier s tempting if ground conditions allow. This year has been a pretty easy season as it has [...]

Harvest seems like a distant memory now….

2026-02-05T14:59:06+00:00September 5, 2025|

starting on the 1st July, finishing on the 7th August. There were a couple of dodgy weeks in the middle where we actually had some rain which stopped play, but then caught up quickly and it was over and out by early august. Yields were…..not that bad. With the dry weather through spring and summer, lots of harvests across [...]

Its all happening….

2026-02-05T14:57:40+00:00July 5, 2025|

Sun is shining, crops are ready and combines are rolling, harvest is officially ON. No time for harvest twitch this year as we started on the 1st July, the earliest we like to. Noone wants to start harvest in June. First up was the winter barley, didn’t have too much of this so that was done in a day. [...]

Open farm days, Sheep(!!!) and a little bit of rain!

2026-02-05T14:56:22+00:00June 5, 2025|

Okay, its not your classic headline, but that would be ours for this month! Thank you so much to everyone who came to our Family Farm Safari in May and to our Evening Farm Walk this month. We hosted over 100 people on the two visits and raised just over £500 for the Friends of Foxton School! We loved [...]

What a brilliant day we had for our Family Farm Safari!

2026-02-05T14:55:04+00:00May 5, 2025|

Thank you so much to the 60(!!!) parents and children who came out on a sunny Saturday morning to walk about the farm, learn more about the crops and spot the Meads Farm Big Five! Well done to all the children who trekked and raced up the hills and asked brilliant questions, we hope you enjoyed it as much [...]

Sunshine sunshine sunshine

2026-02-05T15:25:41+00:00April 5, 2025|

What a treat the last six weeks have been. A more straightforward spring we cannot remember. Of course, there was the awkward moment when we thought it was “too dry” to plant sugarbeet. But they have emerged and are looking well. Just when we were getting worried about it getting too dry we got 30ml (5 on Sunday, 18 [...]
