What a treat the last six weeks have been. A more straightforward spring we cannot remember. Of course, there was the awkward moment when we thought it was “too dry” to plant sugarbeet. But they have emerged and are looking well.
Just when we were getting worried about it getting too dry we got 30ml (5 on Sunday, 18 on Monday morning and another 7 Monday evening – yes the details do matter) rain and we were dancing in it. A happier man you haven’t seen than a farmer waiting for raining drawing the curtains in the morning to the pitter patter of gentle, consistent rain drops, or as the adage says “the type of rain that puts pounds in your pocket” (one of my favourites). So we will be happy for about a week with that (before we need more rain), its great fun.
Crops are all looking well know and growing away well. Lots of work to keep them fed and protected but generally happy.
